cTrader Copy in a nutshell

Review basis

What the score covers

What remains unknown

Provider return, drawdown and execution match remain unknown.

Editorial summary

cTrader Copy creates a separate copy account and sizes positions with an equity-to-equity model. Documentation is strong on skipped trades, cash flows and fee caps, but performance belongs to the selected strategy and can diverge because of broker, symbol, leverage and execution differences.

cTrader Copy is a service layer, not one trader. An investor allocates funds to a separate copy account and selects a public strategy.

Position size follows equity-to-equity allocation. Leverage, symbols, lot limits, price and free margin can make a copied position smaller, later or skipped.

Providers can set performance, management and volume fees within caps. Deposits and withdrawals recalculate allocation, and stopping a strategy can close positions.

cTrader Copy is a platform service containing many public strategies, not a managed portfolio with one performance record. An investor creates a separate copy account, selects a strategy and allocates funds. The strategy page is the relevant unit of analysis. Returns, age, drawdown, positions and followers belong to that provider and can change after this review is published.

Position sizing uses an equity-to-equity model, but copied execution is not identical by design. Differences in leverage, available symbols, lot limits, free margin and prices can reduce, delay or skip a position. Deposits and withdrawals recalculate the allocation. Stopping a strategy can close copied positions, so the exit effect and any market gap should be understood before a large allocation is made.

Providers can charge performance, management and volume fees within published caps: performance up to 40%, management up to 10% annually and volume up to USD 10 per million per side. Performance fees use a high-water-mark mechanism. Broker spreads, commission, swaps and conversion remain separate, which means the displayed gross strategy curve is not automatically the follower's net result.

Filter leaders by a minimum live period and inspect the worst open and closed drawdowns, concentration, leverage and deposit history. Then run a small allocation and compare provider positions with follower fills for several weeks. Define a hard portfolio loss and a rule for strategy drift before starting. The platform statistics improve transparency, but they are not an independent audit of the provider.

Track record verification

3.4 /5

Histories are strategy-specific.

No service-wide return applies. Platform statistics belong to the selected leader and can change; they are not a verified return for the copy service itself.

Risk profile

3.7 /5

Allocation and skipped trades are documented.

Strategy, broker and execution risk remain. The follower must review leverage, concentration, open positions and loss history for each leader before allocating capital.

Strategy clarity

4.4 /5

Copy mechanics are detailed.

Equity examples make differences visible. A category label is insufficient; the record should explain instruments, holding period, concentration and the conditions that can change the approach.

Drawdown

3.2 /5

Drawdown belongs to a selected strategy.

The service has no universal drawdown. Displayed drawdown is historical and leader-specific, so the follower still needs an allocation limit and an exit rule for future losses.

Cost

3.6 /5

Fee types and caps are public.

Actual provider and broker costs vary. The score includes every published platform or subscription charge we could identify, while broker spreads, financing and slippage remain account-specific.

Frequently asked questions

  • Does every trade copy?
No. Funds, symbols, leverage and lot limits can cause differences or skipped trades.
  • Which fees exist?
Performance, management and volume fees can be set within documented caps.
  • What if a strategy stops?
Copied positions close when the provider stops the strategy.
