eToro CopyTrader in a nutshell

Review basis

What the score covers

Controls, minimums, fee disclosure and conflicts. Popular Investor returns are excluded.

What remains unknown

The copied investor can change and follower execution can diverge.

Editorial summary

eToro CopyTrader mirrors a public investor's positions in proportion to an allocation. There is no separate copy fee and current material states USD 200 per investor, but minimum trade sizes, entry-time prices and account changes can produce results different from the copied profile.

CopyTrader lets a customer select a public investor and copy current and future positions proportionally.

Current pages state USD 200 per investor and USD 1 per copied position. Smaller positions are skipped, changing portfolio weights.

No separate copy fee is charged, but spreads and transaction costs apply. The current product, help and risk pages warn that follower execution can differ and that historical statistics do not predict future results.

CopyTrader is a broker-operated feature that copies a selected public investor's current and future positions in proportion to the follower's allocation. The service is not one strategy. Every return, risk score, asset mix and holding period belongs to the selected investor, while product availability also varies by the follower's eToro entity and country.

The current help material states a USD 200 minimum allocation per copied investor and a USD 1 minimum copied position. Positions below that threshold are skipped, so a small follower account can hold different portfolio weights from the leader. Existing positions may be copied at current market prices, which can create a different entry and risk profile from the historical record shown.

eToro states that it does not charge a separate CopyTrader fee. Spreads, overnight financing, conversion, withdrawal and other transaction costs can still apply to the underlying activity. Because there is no performance fee for copying an investor, a high-water mark is not applicable. The investor's public statistics are platform records and do not guarantee that the follower receives the same net result.

Review at least a full market cycle where possible, then inspect concentration, leverage, realised versus open losses and unexplained changes in style. Start with an allocation that can tolerate the documented drawdown plus execution differences. Record your own fills and decide when to stop copying before a loss occurs. A high historical return should never substitute for those checks.

Track record verification

3.5 /5

Profiles show platform-calculated histories.

Followers may not reproduce them. Platform statistics belong to the selected leader and can change; they are not a verified return for the copy service itself.

Risk profile

3.8 /5

Risk scores and Copy Stop Loss are visible.

Historical risk may change. The follower must review leverage, concentration, open positions and loss history for each leader before allocating capital.

Strategy clarity

4.0 /5

Profiles and allocations are visible.

Future style changes remain unknown. A category label is insufficient; the record should explain instruments, holding period, concentration and the conditions that can change the approach.

Drawdown

3.6 /5

Copy Stop Loss limits the relationship.

Stops are not guaranteed at an exact price. Displayed drawdown is historical and leader-specific, so the follower still needs an allocation limit and an exit rule for future losses.

Cost

4.1 /5

No separate copy fee.

Underlying spreads, financing and fees apply. The score includes every published platform or subscription charge we could identify, while broker spreads, financing and slippage remain account-specific.

Frequently asked questions

  • Extra copy fee?
